MicroPower Technologies Unveils Megapixel Video Surveillance Solution

MicroPower Technologies Inc. announced the release of its new SOLVEIL Surveillance System, a wireless, solar-powered solution that delivers high-resolution video to ensure increased security protection, rapid investigations and operations monitoring in outdoor environments.

Part of MicroPower’s SOLVEIL portfolio includes SOLVEIL HD, a powerful and highly reliable megapixel camera that enables users to achieve high-resolution video coverage in perimeter and outdoor areas for enhanced security and operations monitoring. The camera delivers 720p megapixel resolution for detailed image capture and has configurable frame rate capability up to 15 fps. SOLVEIL’s integrated wireless and solar-power capabilities eliminate the need for power, network and transmission cabling, reducing upfront costs and installation complexity. Additionally, the system complies with global unlicensed open radio frequencies.

Operating on a nominal 3/4 Watt, the SOLVEIL solution can capture and transmit live video up to a half-mile away and provide reliable performance for up to five days on a single charge of its integrated, long-life battery pack.

“As the demand for video surveillance continues to increase, users look for solutions that expand upon existing investments to deliver both enhanced security and improved operations efficiency,” said Dave Tynan, vice president of global marketing and sales, MicroPower Technologies. “The growing value and use of video is the driving force behind the launch of the SOLVEIL surveillance system, which extends the benefits of high-resolution video to fit a variety of business and safety needs in outdoor environments.”

SOLVEIL HD, which also is available with an energy-efficient infrared illuminator, delivers ease of installation because of its integrated design, which allows users to redeploy the solution quickly and easily. Its unique zero-cable design minimizes deployment time, reduces installation complexity and limits business disruption because there is no need for trenching.

SOLVEIL is available as a bundled solution and includes all the components necessary to quickly install and manage the system. It easily integrates with existing surveillance infrastructure, and is compatible with today’s leading video and security management platforms. SOLVEIL incorporates robust security features to ensure security and video data is protected. Its proprietary wireless protocol ensures data transmission is maintained in the event of network interruption.

  • The Evolution of IP Camera Intelligence

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. The first network camera, launched in 1996, delivered one frame every 17 seconds—not impressive by today’s standards, but groundbreaking at the time. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
