Google Security Researcher Leaves to Take on New Project

The researcher known as Mudge plans to start a non-profit devoted to software security

Peiter Zatko, aka Mudge, has announced he is leaving his job at Google in order to help the U.S. government make software more secure. His announcement came via twitter.

His plan is to set up an independent non-profit devoted to software security that may eventually get government funding. Reports say he has spoken to administration officials about the idea, but talks have only been exploratory in nature.

By discussed a CyberUL, Zatko has hit on something many security professionals badly want. There is government interested in trying to standardize how software is tested for safety and security.
