Obama Calls for New Security Measures after Terrorist Attack

The President of the United States addressed the nation from the Oval Office in early December in an attempt to calm nervous citizens after two allegedly “radicalized” people shot and killed 14 and injured 21 others in San Bernardino, California.

“We will prevail by being strong and smart, resilient and relentless,” Barack Obama said, calling on Congress to take action to outlaw anyone on a terrorist “no fly list” from buying weapons and asking lawmakers to pass and final authorization for U.S. armed forces to wage war on the group.

Also, Obama demanded stricter gun control, saying it was a key part of combating ISIS. He spoke about how it is too easy for people who want to harm Americans to obtain a gun legally. He suggested that it should be even harder for someone to buy semi-automatic weapons.

“What we must do is make it harder for them to kill,” Obama said.

Obama closed with a call for unity and patriotism, urging Americans not to forget what makes their nation exceptional, even amid the fury of the political season and heated debates over the right way to combat terrorism.
