The players of the Milwaukee Bucks’ have had their financial data compromised in what the franchise is calling a “serious security incident.”
Sources told Yahoo! Sports that an email circulated Wednesday night informing players that an employee of the team had distributed 2015 IRS W-2 documents to someone who was impersonating Peter Feigin, the team president.
The W-2 forms, which were requested by the impersonating hacker on April 26, included information such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers and compensation information. The email sent to players said that the mistake was found out on May 16.
The Bucks said they would be notifying the IRS and the FBI of the incident and have given the players two years of credit monitoring and identify-theft restoration services.
