Disgruntled Employee Kills Two, Himself in Workplace Shooting

Three people, including the shooter, are dead in an apparent workplace shooting on Sept. 22. Athens police Chief Charles Ziegler said a disgruntled employee shot and killed two co-workers and then turned the gun on himself.

Authorities have not identified the victims, but a local Tennessee news station has said they were supervisors at the Thomas & Betts Corp. factory. Witnesses say the shooter had a scheduled meeting with the supervisors, left the building and came back with a pistol.

There were some shots fired in the front office of the building, and then the shooter moved into the plant area of the factory, where he shot and killed the supervisors, according to police. The suspect was found in a bathroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a weapon nearby. No other employees were injured.

The plant does not have its own security, the police said, after one person questioned how the shooter was allowed inside the plant.

Thomas & Betts responded to the incident in a statement made on Twitter.
