Security Alert to All North Carolina GOP Offices after Damaged Headquarters

A local Republican Party office in North Carolina was torched and spray-painted on Sunday, Oct. 16, launching a state-wide security alert warning other offices of similar events.

Authorities have determined that a bottle filled with flammable liquid was thrown through the window of the Orange County Republican Party headquarters overnight, according to a news release from the town of Hillsborough. The substance ignited and damaged the interior of the building before burning out. No one was injured.

 The news release also said that a building adjacent to the office was spray-painted with the words: “Nazi Republicans leave town or else.” The graffiti was covered up the next day.

State GOP executive director Dallas Woodhouse, who described the event as “political terrorism,” said that offices state-wide have begun to re-evaluate their security. He said it was a miracle no one was in the building at the time, as the office is usually in use 24 hours a day.

Woodhouse said no prior threats had been made against the office, and investigators are working with The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine the suspect or suspects in the crime.
