High School Student with Knife on Campus Shot by District Police Officer

A high school student was shot by a school direct police officer on Wednesday, December 6, after brandishing two knives and lunging at students in an outdoor section of Hug High School.

Cell phone video taken of the event shows a group of about 40 students standing around watching as a 14-year-old lunged at others with knives around 11 a.m. Quickly, a Washoe County School District police officer stepped in and asked him to drop his weapons. When the student did not follow the commands of the officer he was shot in the chest/shoulder area.

Once the student was down, the officer told students to back up and began to give the student medical attention until backup arrived on the scene.

The school was placed on lockdown until medical authorities could remove the injured student from the campus. He is listed in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon.

At 2 p.m., the campus was rendered safe by law enforcement and the lockdown was lifted. Students were released to their parents.

The officer, who has yet to be identified, has been places on a routine paid administrative leave.

The school superintendent, Traci Davis, thanked the officer for his quick work, adding he saved the lives of other students when he intervened.

In a Facebook post, the father of the student who was shot identified him as Logan Clark. He wrote that Clark had been bullied in the past.
