Security Ready for Patriots’ Fifth Victory Parade

Security Ready for Patriots’ Fifth Victory Parade

Boston will celebrate yet another Patriots’ victory with a parade that will cause street closures, heavy traffic and tight security.

The traditional parade features Boston’s iconic duck boats and will begin at 11 a.m. near the Prudential Center. From there it will wind down several streets before ending up at City Hall Plaza.

Boston’s chief of operations, Patrick Brophy, says police, the mayor’s office and other city departments are working together to ensure the event is safe and fun for all involved.

It’s no secret that this isn’t Boston’s first rodeo when it comes to victory parades, but Mayor Walsh says the security plan is always evolving as a result of current events.

Walsh says this year the security plan was altered to include dump trucks as barricades to keep out vehicles as a result of the terror attacks in Nice and Berlin that used vehicles as weapons.

“We’re working with the state in making sure allthe cross streets with have dump trucks on them because of the incidents that happened in France,” Walsh said.

City officials believe that between 500,000 to 1 million people will show up for the event. They are asking spectators to leave backpacks at home and use public transportation to cut down on traffic in the area.
