Borussia Dortmund Team Bus Rocked by Explosions

Explosions erupted near a Borussia Dortmund team bus as Dortmund, Germany was preparing to host AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals Tuesday, police said.

The team tweeted out about the incident about an hour before the match’s original start time, explaining that the bus had been in an incident involving an explosion and that one player was in route to the hospital. That player was later identified as defender Marc Bartra.

The team, about 40 or 50 people, was traveling together from the hotel to the stadium at the time of the explosions, though police have not confirmed whether the bombs were near the bus or on the bus.

The site of the explosions happened about 13 kilometers from the stadium and the windows on the bus were blown out as a result. The cause of the explosions is currently unknown.

The team’s twitter account told fans that the stadium was not under any kind of threat. Police were deployed to the stadium as a safety precaution.
