Hundreds Gather to Remember Pulse Nightclub Victims

The incident that left 49 dead happened one year ago

An early morning ceremony took place Monday to remember the 49 victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, which occurred exactly one year ago.

According to a report, the ceremony was open only to survivors, family members and loved ones, but hundreds more gathered outside the fence that surrounds the building.

People traveled from all over the world to pay their respects, including U.S. Army Sgt. Marie Cobbs from Germany.

“I can't help but feel angry,” she said. “I just keep asking why. Why did this happen? I was trained to protect our country and I couldn't even protect my family. He was so young and had so much life left to live."

Cobbs lost her nephew in the shooting.

Club owner Barbara Poma spoke at the ceremony, which included 49 purple hearts lit up with each victim’s name.
