ReconaSense Announces New Office and Demonstration Center on New York City's Fifth Avenue

ReconaSense®, the provider of intelligent Access Control, Unification Platform and pioneer in A.I. for physical security, is pleased to announce its expansion into New York City to better serve its expanding customer base in the Northeast region. Located on one of the world’s most prestigious avenues, the new site is located at 390 Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

ReconaSense has garnered extensive industry accolades and awards by applying the team’s NASA, aerospace and physical security experience into the most intelligent platform on the market today.

“After 30+ years of physical security and artificial neural network experience, we decided to bring a much-needed brain to physical security systems” said John Carter, President and CTO. “ReconaSense fulfills our vision of converting the physical security industry from reactive to proactive, where tragic events can sometimes be preempted. To do this, you need a system with the deep intelligence to detect anomalies, then automate your desired responses via next-generation access control” said Carter. “Large customers are also extremely interested in finally having the ability to seamlessly integrate data from the many security sensors and building systems. This is a significant breakthrough”.

Since ReconaSense provides such a versatile framework for solving complex security challenges, the Manhattan office provides an ideal, centrally located demonstration and solution center for collaboration between end-users, consultants, and system integrators.

  • The Evolution of IP Camera Intelligence

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. The first network camera, launched in 1996, delivered one frame every 17 seconds—not impressive by today’s standards, but groundbreaking at the time. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
