NY Boosts Security After Explosives Found at London Transportation Hubs

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced increased security measures at "critical New York infrastructure points" after explosive devices were found in London.

Three incidents of found explosive devices at transportation hubs in London is sparking increased security in New York our of an abundance of caution.

Britains counterterrorism police are investigating after three padded mailing bags filled with small explosive devices were found in London at Heathrow Airport, City Airport and Waterloo Station. Police said the smaller devices found inside the bags "appeared capable of igniting an initially small fired when opened."

Officials say the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command is "treating the incidents as a linked series." 

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he has increased security at "critical New York infrastructure points" after the explosive devices were found in London.

"The explosives found in London transportation hubs are stark reminders of the threats we face today," Gov. Cuomo said in a statement. "In the wake of this act of violence, New York stands with Britain and all our allies against terrorism in all its forms."

Gov. Cuomo said that out of "an abundance of caution," he has directed state law enforcement to step up security at high-profile locations around the state, including airports, train stations, tunnels and mass transit systems.

"In New York, we understand the dangers of our time and we will continue to work aggressively with all local and federal partners to keep New Yorkers safe," Gov. Cuomo said.
