Review: Brinno DUO Smart Peephole Doorcam

Standing at your front door and can’t really see out your peephole? Brinno has that covered, or at least it gives you a clear pathway to see what’s going on outside your front door. Better yet, you don’t even need to be at home to see what’s there.

The Brinno DUO Smart Peephole Doorcam has a built-in 2.7 inch color display, and a mobile app for your smartphone. It is simple to install, even for a novice DIYer. Images are stored on a micro SDcard locally.

The camera is enclosed and the peephole is a 12 mm lens, including a motion receiver, two lens barrels depending upon the thickness of your door. It does come with 4 AA batteries, but have spares available because they go quickly. You can turn the device off, if you’re at home, and turn it on quickly without being discovered. You can also connect the device to your home’s network.

The camera will display live video on screen, when activated, or you press the shutter button to see who might be outside. It does capture eight still frames and stores them on the SDcard. The unit comes with a detailed App Setup instruction guide that is easy to follow.

The camera sends images of the visitor to your email and an alert to your mobile phone. The device sends alerts as soon as motion is detected to your phone and images to your email. It’s even theft-proof from the outside, creating an invisible security barrier.

Simply put, it works well. The night view outside is clear if there are outside lights to enhance the image. It is easy to install, and operate.
