Allied Universal Secures Patent for Air Cargo Canine Platform

New technology automates compliance and documentation for TSA-regulated canine screening processes in the air cargo industry.

Allied Universal has been issued a U.S. patent for the methods used in its K9-Comply platform, a proprietary system designed to manage canine air cargo screening.

The patent, U.S. Patent No. 12,531,967, titled “Canine Inspection Recording,” covers the digital workflow used to document explosive detection canine searches. Developed by the company’s Enhanced Protection Services unit, the platform is designed to meet Transportation Security Administration requirements for the 3PK9 program.

K9-Comply uses mobile technology to record canine inspections and link them to shipment identifiers and screening events. This process creates an audit-ready evidence package, intended to streamline the regulatory oversight process.

“This patent represents an important step forward in how regulated security operations are managed in critical environments,” said Glen Kucera, president of Allied Universal Enhanced Protection Services.

The system has supported clients through more than 500 TSA audits since its launch in 2020. It currently operates at more than 160 locations nationwide.

By centralizing documentation required under the Certified Cargo Screening Program-K9 process, the cloud-based system allows canine handlers to manage tracking and document transfers digitally. Company officials stated the technology is intended to reduce administrative burdens for air cargo clients while maintaining compliance with evolving federal regulations.

“Innovation is key to our growth and this patent reflects our dedication to advancements in the air cargo screening industry,” said Steve Jones, Allied Universal global chairman and CEO.

The new patent joins the company's existing portfolio of detection technology, which includes the SmartTech platform. That system connects on-site X-ray screening with remote bomb technicians for real-time threat analysis.
