Report: 25 Percent Of Targeted Computer Attacks In October Destined For Retail Sector

Symantec Corp. recently announced the publication of its October MessageLabs Intelligence Report. Analysis reveals that targeted attacks have increased significantly since they were first discovered five years ago from one to two attacks per week in 2005 to 77 attacks per day in October.

Retailers Lost More Than $33 Billion To Theft In 2009, According To Survey

Retailers lost more than $33 billion to theft last year according to a recent annual survey conducted by the University of Florida with a funding grant from ADT Security Services. The National Retail Security Survey (NRSS) preliminary results show a slight decrease in the rate of theft as a percent of sales from 1.51 percent or $36.5 billion in 2008 to 1.44 percent or $33.5 billion in 2009.

Survey: Retailers Making A Dent In Organized Retail Crime

Industry partnerships, concerned law enforcement officers and resilient retailers have done their part in making a small dent in the growing problem of organized retail crime, but new research shows there’s still a lot of work to be done. According to NRF’s sixth annual ORC survey, 89.5 percent of retailers surveyed say their company has been a victim of ORC within the past 12 months, a slight decrease from last year’s 92.2 percent.
