ABLOY USA Traffic Enclosure Lock

ABLOY USA Traffic Enclosure Lock

ABLOY USA is offering a universal hybrid mechanical/electromechanical product with the introduction of its new Traffic Enclosure Locks. The 75481 series provides several key access control options using less cylinder and offering greater accountability.

”There are more than 500,000 managed traffic intersections in the United States that are eligible for an upgrade. Currently, the marketplace is flooded with a single version that relies on using only one key,” said Joe Brown, vertical market manager of Transportation for ABLOY USA.

“Our 75481 series provides the right solution for three distinct applications. The first is product specific with less cylinder, such as any Key-In-Knob Schlage. There also is the mechanical PROTEC2 and the electromechanical ABLOY CLIQ™. So far, several OEM manufacturers have expressed an interest in these locks because it represents a more robust security solution than what they are currently using.”

The need to secure traffic critical infrastructure is becoming more complicated due to new traffic cabinet technology. As more intelligent transportation systems find their way to market and are placed near busy roadsides, more states’ Departments of Transportation are inclined to find better methods to secure their cabinets. Complicating security concerns is that most need to be accessed at various times by qualified contractors and agencies for maintenance, repair and upgrade or timing adjustments.

With only a one-key option, potential red flags are raised with access accountability once a key is lost or stolen. Brown said the ABLOY 75481 series prevents that situation from happening.

“Typically, traffic locks are replaced when a latching mechanism fails,” Brown said. ”Key control – or the lack thereof – is a significant indicator when it is time to replace these locks. We have the ability to provide an exceptional and reliable solution that offers a complete value proposition to the traffic transportation marketplace.”

There are 12 brass models to choose from with the 75481 series. Each left or right handed bolt and slam latch are constructed with an attack-resistant design and tamper proof features to repel forced entry attempts. A built-in dust cover also protects the cylinder opening from grime and moisture.

”The Slam Lock is very common and it depends on how the cabinet is currently configured, either as a deadlatch or a deadbolt. With regards to weather, PROTEC2 and the CLIQ cylinder are especially good in extreme conditions,” Brown said.

”The tipping point with CLIQ is electronically programmed credentials can open specific locks on a designated schedule by the user, and can expire or be revoked to meet any security needs. Audit information is available from both the lock and key, with a date and time stamp record of every event. This series is a great add-on to online locks where an uncontrolled mechanical key override is causing a security risk.”

Organizations are increasingly turning their attention to human-focused security approaches, as two out of three (68%) cybersecurity incidents involve people. Threat actors are shifting from targeting networks and systems to hacking humans via social engineering methods, living off human errors as their most prevalent attack vector. Whether manipulated or not, human cyber behavior is leveraged to gain backdoor access into systems. This mainly results from a lack of employee training and awareness about evolving attack techniques employed by malign actors. Read Now
