Access Control is a system that manages the entire building envelope. End users want to know how multiple openings are able to inter-relate to manage the security of the entire space, as well as all what individuals will be moving through it. Today’s true Access Control features are meant to bring the best leading edge software for the end user and the ability to interact with emerging standards for open architecture access control hardware.

It is in the collective where the magic of access control is at home. This includes anti-passback, interlocking doors and area control, and relating intrusion to access in real time, including the two-man rule. Escort access and elevator control are also well practiced access control systems functions. The latest Access Control must be flexible and have the ability to use adaptable hardware that is designed and manufactured specifically for access control based on emerging technologies, which can change industry standards and evolving network environments.

This makes it possible for Access Control partners to proactively meet dynamic system requirements and end user demands. Instead of viewing each system separately, security users can manage and respond to one view of all their access control and intrusion systems and devices once these are integrated through the Area Control specification.

Through the area control integration, an alarm or event in one system can be automatically communicated to and trigger actions in other systems. This seamless communication streamlines security management and tasks, such as revoking access privileges and clearing alarms. This is today’s Access Control.
