K-12 & Higher Education Classroom Security: Addressing the Issue of Secondary Barricade & Locking Devices
Classroom security upgrades are a high priority for many school districts and higher education facilities in light of recent tragedies, but the reality is funds are not always readily available to support such initiatives. Because of the emotional drive from administration and the public “to do something”, secondary barricade locks or supplemental braces that force a door shut are becoming popular options. However, these devices remain non-compliant and therefore illegal in most jurisdictions.
Join ASSA ABLOY and supporting associations such as the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM), the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS) and the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) as we review how you can protect your students and faculty and maintain compliance with the use of approved and appropriate mechanical and electromechanical hardware.
