The One Adult: Building a Human-Centered School Safety Strategy

Date: Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 2:00pm ET - 1:00pm CT - 11:00am PT

Schools continue to invest in cameras, access control, communications, weapons detection and other security technologies. But the effectiveness of those systems ultimately depends on people.

In this webinar, retired police chief, school safety executive, investigator and author Matt Antkowiak will examine the human layer of school security and why trusted relationships, behavioral threat assessment, information sharing and organizational culture must operate alongside physical security technology.

Using his “One Adult” principle, Antkowiak will challenge school and security leaders to ask a simple but consequential question: Does every student have one trusted adult who will recognize when something is wrong, and know what to do about it?

Participants will leave with a practical framework for integrating people, technology, threat assessment, emergency preparedness and school-based public safety into a more complete approach to prevention and protection.
