Splinternet Holdings Introduces Wide-Area Radiological Detection Products

Splinternet Holdings Inc. introduced three new entries in the wide-area radiological detection marketplace, DefenTect, GammaTect and GammaTect Plus at ISC West.

DefenTect manages a distributed network of solid state GammaTect radiation sensors, that send real-time notifications to security command centers when the presence of threat-level gamma rays is detected. The integrated DefenTect system enables customers with IP networks to add radiation detection capability, increasing the utility of their security systems. Sensors can be strategically positioned adjacent to existing cameras to identify threats visually.

Integral to DefenTect is a messaging system that sends customized alerts when any anomaly is detected. Administrators can designate alerts to be triggered to cell phones, pagers, PDAs or other devices through text messages, calls or e-mail. Dispersed GammaTect sensors can be hidden under ceiling tiles or in walls to prevent compromise by terrorists. Testing indicates that the sensor detects gamma radiation at 2mR/hr in less than one second. This means a GammaTect sensor will detect a dirty bomb made with 60 curies of Cesium-137 at a distance of 83.82 meters, or 275 feet.

GammaTect Plus is a highly sophisticated gamma sensor with more sensitivity than GammaTect sensors. GammaTect Plus enables real-time isotope identification and can be set to ignore medical or other benign environmental isotopes to prevent triggering innocent positives. Even high radiation areas may be monitored since the system automatically subtracts predictive background radiation.

Splinternet’s unattended radiation surveillance system, DefenTect, integrates monitoring and active alerts in a ubiquitous wide-area sensor network, decreasing dependence on security personnel. DefenTect is a homeland security solution designed to be installed at seaports, airports, trucking and shipping facilities, landmark buildings, hospitals and borders. Quantities of radiological materials stored at hospitals and food irradiation plants could be used by terrorists to create dirty bombs which if deployed, would cause drastic psychological, sociological and economic devastation.

    A8V MIND

Hexagon’s Geosystems presents a portable version of its Accur8vision detection system. A rugged all-in-one solution, the A8V MIND (Mobile Intrusion Detection) is designed to provide flexible protection of critical outdoor infrastructure and objects. Hexagon’s Accur8vision is a volumetric detection system that employs LiDAR technology to safeguard entire areas. Whenever it detects movement in a specified zone, it automatically differentiates a threat from a nonthreat, and immediately notifies security staff if necessary. Person detection is carried out within a radius of 80 meters from this device. Connected remotely via a portable computer device, it enables remote surveillance and does not depend on security staff patrolling the area.
