Workshop Covers Benefits, Requirements Of UL Listing For Central Stations

The Electronic Security Expo (ESX) recently announced its offering of a comprehensive, half-day workshop on the benefits and requirements of a various Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listings for central stations.

Entitled “The ABCs of Growing Your Business as a New UL Central Station” and scheduled for Monday, June 22 from 1-5 p.m. in the Baltimore Convention Center, the session provides simple, straightforward steps to becoming a UL-listed central station and details the many important avenues it opens to help grow business.

Attendees will learn how to prepare for the UL evaluation, when to apply, and where to get answers to questions that arise before, during and after the process. The session also covers key points about the configuration of the building and the equipment used that could save significant upfront costs.

UL Section Manager, Peter Tallman, will teach the course. Tallman is a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology and he also holds certification as an Engineering Technician in Fire Protection Engineering Technology.

He assumed the responsibilities for administering UL’s Alarm System Certificate Service in the Northeast in 1990 and the East Coast Division in 2005. He is primarily involved in the administration of UL personnel engaged in the auditing of alarm companies that are listed for either burglar or fire alarm services. Tallman has served as the principal engineer for the development of the UL Standard for National Industrial Security Systems, UL2050 and several other related standards.

“We are pleased to add this important pre-conference workshop to the ESX education program,” said John Lombardi, president of CIA Security in Fishkill, N.Y. and chairman of the ESX Program Advisory Committee. “There are several hundred central station operators who could benefit from the distinction and discipline associated with a UL listing. This session offers a way to concisely review both the advantages and resource requirements of pursing a listing and is conveniently scheduled as a precursor to our exciting 76-session ESX seminar program.”
