Tradeshow Helps Security Products Launch Panel Discussion

I love the ASIS tradeshow and mingling with the masses, but truly I expected more masses. Is it me, or is the traffic down a little more than expected?
Even so, there’s been plenty to see, and it’s helped our Network-Centric Security magazine plan for a panel discussion next month in New York.
That’s right, our magazine will be hosting a panel discussion each day during ISC East, Oct. 28-29, at the Jacob Javits Center. Our first panel will feature ONVIF proponent Fredrik Nilsson, Axis Communications general manager for the Americas and PSIA proponent Dave Fowler of VidSys. Each will talk about the advantages of standards and interoperability.
Still working on Day Two’s panel, but we know at this point it will be a discussion on school security. More about this will follow on our Web site and various e-news products.
As for the second day at ASIS, Axis Communications has launched its camera application platform. This will allow third-party development of applications that can be downloaded and installed on the company’s network cameras and video encoders.
Nilsson said the platform supports video analytics applications that provide the products with intelligent capabilities such as recognition, counting detection and tracking.
VideoIQ also announced that their iCVR product line is now integrated with Milestone’s XProtect. This gives end users a seamless solution for intelligent, proactive surveillance.
In the category of things you better check out this final day of the show, Speco Technologies has introduced a DVR that tucks itself safely and securely into a wall space to limit criminal access. It’s worth the stroll to booth 3908.
March Networks plans to broaden its go to market strategy with video analytics, cameras and software. The strategy also includes a strong movement toward airport security as well as commercial applications and solutions. You will find them at booth 2865.
We’ve also started two new projects that we’re excited about. We’ve taken a video clip from Avigilon, which will be posted on our Web site soon. Look for it. Avigilon is demonstrating their Web browser product and we’re hoping you’ll have a few extra minutes to jump on our site to find a stadium filled with people, but more importantly locating the guy doing a handstand on a security railing.
Once we have this on the Web site, we’ll let you know. More importantly, I’d like to know how long it takes you to find the upside down clown.
Finally, we launched our first-ever New Product of the Year awards and handed winners their ribbons and trophies. The list of winners is on the Security Products Web site. It was exciting for us to honor these winners and show our appreciation to all contest entrants. When you see a red ribbon in various booths at the tradeshow, they are the entrants that made this happen. We appreciate their efforts and dedication to the security industry.
I look forward to the final day of ASIS appointments and visits. I hope the show has been as successful for you as it has been for Security Products staff. ASIS staff does a great job in preparation for this once a year event. This has been another good one.
