Unisys To Design, Manage Integrated Security System For Los Angeles World Airports

The Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the airport oversight and operations department for the City of Los Angeles, has awarded Unisys a security systems consultant contract to design and manage implementation of an integrated security environment for the organization’s three airports. Under the contract, which has a term of one base year and two one-year options exercisable at the city’s discretion, Unisys will help LAWA design and develop systems to predict and effectively respond to potential security threats.

Unisys will develop a multi-layered environment, integrating components that address physical, personnel and IT security threats to deliver comprehensive information to LAWA and law enforcement officials. LAWA plans to roll out the new systems at Los Angeles International Airport and Ontario International Airport.

The new environment will include systems for physical access control, identity management, video surveillance and mobile communications network systems. Unisys also will provide systems to monitor alarms, manage identity credentialing, provide voice radio communications and provide other public safety and security services. In addition, Unisys will analyze airport security requirements, develop specifications for vendor solicitations for additional security work at the airports, and provide ongoing program management and engineering support during the implementation phase.

Under a separate three-year contract, Unisys will operate and maintain LAWA’s current physical access control system.

The contracts will allow LAWA to draw upon Unisys longstanding experience in providing security and IT services to the commercial airport industry. In 2005, the Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) awarded Unisys the Master Systems Integrator contract to develop and integrate core operational systems for BCIA’s new international terminal in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games. In addition, Unisys is working with the Barcelona Airport to implement a new integrated security system and manage its communications network as part of a three-year contract awarded by Spanish Airports and Air Navigation in 2008.

”Los Angeles World Airports, as the operator of one of the world’s busiest airports, understands the value that real-time integrated security information can play in reducing risk and enabling effective response to potential threats,” said Ted Davies, president of Unisys Federal Systems. “Unisys looks forward to applying our expertise in location, perimeter and surveillance security to help Los Angeles World Airports build and deploy a world-class security environment that provides the highest level of protection and serves as a model for other aviation facilities.”

    A8V MIND

Hexagon’s Geosystems presents a portable version of its Accur8vision detection system. A rugged all-in-one solution, the A8V MIND (Mobile Intrusion Detection) is designed to provide flexible protection of critical outdoor infrastructure and objects. Hexagon’s Accur8vision is a volumetric detection system that employs LiDAR technology to safeguard entire areas. Whenever it detects movement in a specified zone, it automatically differentiates a threat from a nonthreat, and immediately notifies security staff if necessary. Person detection is carried out within a radius of 80 meters from this device. Connected remotely via a portable computer device, it enables remote surveillance and does not depend on security staff patrolling the area.
