GE Security Provides Integrated System For Planned City In Malaysia

GE Security Inc. recently  announced it has completed the first phase of an integrated deployment of the GE Facility Commander Wnx global system and the GE UltraView EVP (VisioWave) enterprise video platform to provide centralized security for Puteri Harbor in Malaysia.

The deployment includes security management, access control and monitoring capabilities for the luxury harbor development, a signature in the emerging regional city of Nusajaya.

The GE Security solution is the first system installed under the Master Security Plan for Nusajaya, developed by Sinclair Knight Merz, one of the leading security consultancies.  Upon completion Nusajaya will span 100 square kilometers and be the largest planned city in South-East Asia.

“This implementation forms the cornerstone of Nusajaya's security management system,” said Nick Lim, SEA sales leader for GE Security. “It is the first phase of a security backbone that will be capable of expanding to manage the entire city as it grows to include a financial center, office parks, theme parks, waterfront development, administrative center, luxury housing developments, convention center, education city, biotechnology park and a light and medium industrial park."

The installation of GE Security technologies at Puteri Harbor demonstrates GE’s ongoing commitment to Nusajaya, expected to reach a population of half a million within 25 years. In 2007, GE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with UEM Land Berhad, the master developer for Nusajaya, to jointly support the safety and security, infrastructure and environmental aspects for the design and construction of the city, which is just across the border from Singapore in Johor, Malaysia.

As part of that commitment, GE Security worked with UEM Land and other parties to develop Nusajaya’s Security Master Plan. This plan is the first of its kind to embed security within the planning and design principles of an entire city development, and involves partnerships with key stakeholders including the government, police, private sector, consultants, business partners and the city’s community.

“Security in Puteri Harbor and throughout Nusajaya is critical as the city and its developers seek to attract and protect business, visitors, residents and investors,” said Zulkifli Tahmali, project director for Nusajaya of UEM Land. “The neighboring Singapore community will expect no less as they adopt Nusajaya as a natural extension of their region, offering new business, leisure, residential, education, medical and manufacturing options for their growing populations. GE Security has been an important partner in mapping out security requirements and this deployment in Puteri Harbor turns that blueprint into reality.”

“GE Security is proud to have played an integral role in Nusajaya’s Security Master Plan,” said Dean Seavers, president and CEO of GE Security. “Our business is not only delivering security technologies in important emerging markets; we are at the table from the earliest stages, with a commitment to building and sustaining safe, thriving urban developments that contribute to the global economy. Our integrated deployment of Facility Commander Wnx and UltraView EVP in Puteri Harbor produces a model that will be easily repeatable and integrated with other Nusajaya security systems as the city develops and grows.”

Facility Commander Wnx offers security management capabilities that integrate access control, photo identification credentialing, video surveillance and alarm monitoring into a unified command, which operates on the familiar Microsoft Windows® Platform.  This enables security officials to have immediate access to information, to reduce the response time to potential security threats and to help keep the residents and the property safe and secure.

UltraView EVP video security software comprises a comprehensive suite of applications for intelligent video surveillance. Finely tuned to work in concert with one another, each application features usability and application flexibility that takes advantage of the versatile line of encoders and storage solutions that make up this cohesive family of products.  The Ultraview development environment was used to create a fully customized, consolidated command and control platform to integrate Facility Commander Wnx access control, Ultraview video and intercoms. Gapurna Technologies Sdn. Bhd., the integrator for the project, developed a graphical user interface customized for the needs of the Puteri Harbor security operators.
