IBM DataPower Executive Joins Layer 7 Management Team

Layer 7 Technologies, which focuses on service-oriented integration, cloud connectivity and Web-to-mobile information sharing, has announced that Jeff Miller has joined the company’s executive management team as vice president of sales.

Miller brings more than 15 years of sales and marketing experience to Layer 7, with expertise in building direct and indirect sales teams for technology companies where SOA, cloud and security have been the focal point. At Layer 7, he’ll play a pivotal role in continuing the company’s aggressive growth, designing go-to-market strategies for new technologies and expanding the company’s product offerings in new and existing markets.

Most recently, Miller  was a business unit executive at IBM responsible for DataPower, Cast Iron and SOA Appliances in North America. He was a vice president of sales for DataPower before IBM acquired it. Previously, he held sales leadership positions at SOA, cloud and SaaS startups such as Actional and Grand Central Communications. Miller entered the software and security space in the early 1990s as part of the original team at the Internet security and reporting software startup Telemate.net. He became executive director of sales for the company, spearheading exceptional growth that led to a successful IPO in 1999 and the eventual sale of the company to Verso Technologies.

“Jeff has the breadth and depth of experience, coupled with specific domain expertise in Layer 7’s sweet spot, that makes him a perfect fit for taking our sales and market presence to a new level,” said Paul Rochester, CEO of Layer 7 Technologies. “He joins the company following a blockbuster year that saw triple-digit growth, strong global customer acquisition and industry recognition of our innovative solutions. Jeff will strengthen our management team as we build on these successes.”

“Layer 7 has been on a tear over the past few years with explosive growth and a highly flexible portfolio of SOA and cloud security products, and I’m eager to help take the company to the next level,” Miller said. “My mission is to expand our customer base by promoting awareness of our technologies and product ecosystem, and I look forward to improving the way private and public sector customers approach web application and cloud security.”
