ASIS Awards NYPD Shield for Excellence in Public Private Partnership at Orlando Convention

The ASIS International Foundation and Law Enforcement Liaison Council (LELC) proudly announce the winner of the 2011 Matthew Simeone Award for Public Private Partnership (P3) Excellence is the NYPD Shield in New York City. Establish in 2011, this award recognizes outstanding achievement by a private organization and a public agency that partner to address crime prevention, antiterrorism, public safety issues and other difficult challenges.

"The ASIS Foundation/LELC Matthew Simeone Award received an outstanding response for this prestigious and meaningful award. It is evident that security practitioners are actively involved in collaboration, information-sharing and maintaining the continuity of effective public-private partnerships with stakeholders in both sectors," stated Oksana Farber, Chair LELC Matthew Simeone Award Selection Committee.

The selection committee, comprised of a group of P3 subject matter experts, reviewed sixteen applications from across the country seeking a partnership program to provide evidence of excellence in the advocacy, development, implementation and practice of public private cooperation for public safety. NYPD Shield, established in 2005, excelled among the entrants by demonstrating an innovative approach to successful problem resolution, effective executive leadership and a willingness of all partners to share information about terrorism and other threats to the residents and businesses in New York City and beyond.

"Inspector Matthew Simeone was a leader not only in his community, but in the law enforcement and security community nationwide. His example set the stage for future collaboration and programs such as NYPD Shield, which has served as an example to all about the importance and effectiveness of public private partnerships," said Brian H. Reich, CPP, chairman, ASIS LELC. "It is the vision and collaborative spirit of law enforcement and security leaders across our great nation that produces such effective programs as NYPD Shield. On behalf of Vice-Chair Briane Grey and the members of the ASIS Law Enforcement Liaison Council, I congratulate all the applicants on their P3 efforts and in particular NYPD Shield on being selected as the 2011 award recipient."

ASIS President Ray O'Hara, CPP, will present the award at the ASIS International 57th Annual Seminar and Exhibits (ASIS 2011) at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. More than 20,000 attendees from around the world are anticipated to attend ASIS 2011, which offers traditional and information security practitioners a combination of dynamic educational programs, interactive networking forums, and 700+ product and service displays across more than 230,000 square feet. The award will be presented at the Law Enforcement/Military Appreciation Day Luncheon. Active law enforcement and military personnel may register to attend the keynote address by Vicente Fox, president of Mexico (2000-2006), and education sessions, as well as visit the exhibit floor, for FREE on this day. Luncheon tickets may be purchased online at www.asis2011.org.

"The ASIS Foundation and the LELC are very grateful to the Microsoft Global Security organization and the other sponsors of the award. Thanks to their support and assistance, ASIS will be able to annually recognize the impact and significance of P3s on our homeland security agenda," acknowledged Farber.
