Optex Helps Riverdale Neighborhood House Prevent Trespassing

When Riverdale Neighborhood House, a nonprofit community center in northwest Bronx, wanted to secure its neighborhood pool from trespassing, property damage, theft and unauthorized use, they turned to Grid Squared Systems for a perimeter security system that would deter violators and alert authorities.

Grid Squared Systems, an Optex Certified System Integrator, teamed with Optex to recommend an easy-to-implement solution based on Optex’s Redwall passive infrared motion sensors. The sensors use battery-operated wireless transmitters to communicate with a central station through a wireless receiver that, if an intrusion is detected, sends an email message and alerts the authorities.

“The Redwall system gives Riverdale a simple, yet effective solution,” said Chris Adams, Optex’s Eastern regional sales manager. “The advantage of wireless connectivity is that it eliminates the need for costly wiring and decreases installation time without compromising performance.”

“The Redwall system was simple to install and set up,” said Lon Bazelais, senior partner at Grid Squared. “Optex provides the right products we needed to ensure full coverage, even in areas with foliage and other obstacles.”

“The system has not only delivered the performance we needed, it proved cost-effective and easy to use,” said Daniel Eudene, executive director at Riverdale. “We’ve already deterred several intruders from taking a night swim, which protects them as well as our organization and program participants.”

The installed system uses three different Redwall models to satisfy different dimensional needs in coverage. Redwall SIP-3020WFi sensors, with a coverage range of 100x65 feet, are used along the short sides of the pool, while Model SIP-404WFi sensors with a range of 130x13 feet cover the long sides. A Model VX-402Ri sensor, with 40x40 feet coverage, secures the pool’s entryway. The sensors are designed to integrate easily with security cameras, giving Riverdale a simple upgrade path if the need arises.
