Charity Organization Awards Security Companies for Humanitarian Contributions

Mission 500, a charitable organization engaging security professionals to sponsor needy children through the World Vision organization, recently announced the winners of its annual Humanitarian and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) awards. The awards are designed to honor companies in the security industry who make important contributions to those in need.

Home automation provider Vivint is being honored with the 2012 Mission 500 CSR award. In 2011 the Vivint Gives Back program raised over $726,000 from company personnel. This total was matched dollar for dollar by Vivint, enabling the company to donate over $1 million to 86 different charities. The company’s extraordinary staff also donated 8,400 hours of service to organizations and families in need, including:

  • Feed My Starving Children: Vivint staff packed over 100,000 meals with over 500 volunteers in two days at corporate headquarters.
  • Tornado Assistance: After the devastating tornado in Joplin, MO, Vivint responded within 24 hours and brought desperately needed food and water to residents. Within 72 hours they also had a team of 20 people in place to help with clean-up efforts.
  • Sub for Santa: Vivint provides Christmas gifts for kids throughout the country each year. In 2010 they came in contact with Lincoln Elementary, a school with 97 percent of the student population living below the poverty line. Working with teachers, Vivint provided badly needed items including food, clothing and bedding. Employees donated money, shopped for and wrapped gifts for 476 students.

“Vivint believes that protecting families and strengethening communities goes above our products and services. Giving back to those in need is a core value of our company and we are honored to be recognized with the 2012 Mission 500 CSR Award,” said Josh Houser, president of Vivint Gives Back.

Mary Jensby, a director at Monitronics, is the recipient of the 2012 Mission 500 Humanitarian award. Mary is well known in the industry for her service to the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) and Electronic Security Association (ESA), and has been engaged over the years in many efforts that involve volunteering for community and social causes in the Dallas area. At Monitronics, Mary takes the lead in helping the local community, including working with the Salvation Army to prepare and serve meals. She also volunteers at a North Texas Food Bank in a wide variety of tasks including unloading trucks, stocking shelves, emptying and filling cartons, loading tables and more.

At Christmas, Mary’s team at Monitronics “adopted” the local elementary school and invited another special needs school to their facility. Children enjoyed a day with Santa and were treated to lunch, presents and a tour of the service department. Additionally, each Christmas she has donated items to a local assisted living care facility, making sure that every resident receives a gift. In her spare time Mary also volunteers for the American Cancer Society.

The two awards will be presented on March 29th at ISC West. The presentation will be at 5:00 pm, at the Security 5K reception on the show floor. All are welcome at the reception, which will take place near the entrance to the Expo hall.
