Smart Card Alliance Workshop Educates About PIV Credentials

The Smart Card Alliance will offer an all-day workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at ISC West that will educate about PIV, PIV-I and CIV specifications and the physical and logical access applications that the standards can support in a converged credentialing program.

The PIV program was created by the government and has defined a set of secure, standards-based credentials. The specifications can be used for physical and logical access control.

The workshop is relevant for corporate CIOs, CSOs, security directors, IT directors, system manufacturers and integrators who offer access control products in the commercial market. It will also provide guidance to organizations that are looking how to leverage standards in implementing a secure identity credential.

Morning sessions include Smart Card Technology 101; PIV, PIV-I and CIV Credentials; Drivers for Standards-Based Credentials; Physical Access with PIV-I and CIV Credentials and Logical Access with PIV-I

In the afternoon, topics include Migration Strategies to a Standards-Based Convergence Credential; Identity Credentials on Mobile Devices; Standards Strategy for Converged Physical and Logical Access Systems.

The workshop will conclude with a wrap-up session and a lessons learned panel that will include organizations who have or who are planning to implement PIV-I or CIV credentials. The panel will discuss why the organization moved to standards-based credentials and some of the lessons learned from the shift.
