An Integrated Approach to Security at the New World Trade Center

One session that will surely draw in crowds is devoted to situational awareness and security intelligence at the new World Trade Center (WTC).

Throughout the ISC West educational series happening this week in Las Vegas, several shows will highlight integrating physical identity and access management systems, but this session sparks interest because of the national security threat the WTC faced a little more than 10 years ago. And a takeaway benefit for attendees will be how to apply WTC security best practices into everyday use.

The new WTC housed in downtown Manhattan will amass five skyscrapers, include a national September 11 Memorial and Museum, transportation hub, 550,000 square feet of retail space and a performing arts center, all while representing the strength of American people.

The new WTC will stand as a symbol for the United States, even more so than ever before. But, lingering questions on the minds of many Americans is how all five towers be monitored for security and safety? This precise question will be answered by session speakers Tim Galvin, sales executive at VidSys, Inc. and Phil Santore, president at DVS Security. The two will address the centralized security command and control center to monitor video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, vertical transportation, building management systems, visitor management, fire alarm, chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear detection and more.

The command center will provide the WTC security team, New York Police and Fire Departments with maximum visibility thanks to a conjoined identity management and situation management software solution that ties together physical identity and access management with PSIM technologies to manage identities and events in real time for the estimated 50,000 tenants and more than one million visitors.

In this session, Laurie Aaron of Quantum Secure will moderate discussion between Galvin and Santore. Galvin of VidSys will explain the benefits of an integrated approach to site-wide Identity and Situation management to reduce operational costs and risk; and how the deployment of an integrated solution for the new WTC can be applied to various security industry approaches. Santore of DVS Security will add to the security discussion by sharing best practices contributing to a holistic approach to identity management and physical security integration.

The education session titled “ PS03: Innovative Situation Awareness at the New World Trade Center: Security Intelligence Through the Integration of Identities and Events” will happen on Wednesday, March 28 from 2:45 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.
