ISC West Attendees Some of Heroes on JetBlue Flight 191

ISC West 2012 is a wrap! The conference was more than a success this year. Despite all the new security innovations front and center at the conference along with educational discussions about industry issues; the news about a few heroic attendees aboard JetBlue Flight 191 from New York received much attention not only at ISC West and within the security industry but across major media outlets.

Jeff Diaz and Sal Visione of DWG Distribution were just two men who took action on Monday, March 26, when JetBlue Capt. Clayton Osbon apparently had a meltdown on Flight 191 bound for Las Vegas. According to the rumors that circulated throughout the conference Osbon was shouting about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and religion. Osbon was pushed out of the cockpit by the co-pilot and then subdued by at least five passengers aboard the flight.

There were 135 passengers aboard the flight and a few were security industry professionals headed to Las Vegas for ISC West and immediately knew how to respond to the situation and restrained Osbon.

Flight 191 was grounded in Amarillo, Texas.  Osbon is now in a Texas jail being held without bond and could face up to 20 years in prison, if convicted.

None of the of the passengers involved in the detainment of Osbon have yet to speak to major media outlets about how the events actually played out. However, the bravery of those involved in Osbon’s restraint was heard all across the showroom floor.

As details continue to emerge pertaining to the actual events that lead up to the captain’s breakdown and the emergency landing, I’m sure we’ll hear more about the heroic efforts of notable security folk.

In the meantime, the airways are just a bit safer thanks to a few passengers brave enough to take action.
