Firetide Wins Korea's Largest Wireless Access Point Deal for Hospitals

LG Uplus Corp., Korea's third-largest service provider, will use Firetide wireless acess points (APs) to support a massive wireless LAN (WLAN) project that will provide coverage for 180 of Korea's largest hospitals nationwide. Upon completion, more than 4,000 Firetide HotPoint 5100 APs will be deployed in the LG Uplus network to to provide hospital patients with reliable, high-bandwidth access to the Internet, videos-on-demand, and general hospital information services across the entire network of hospitals.

The initial phase of the project encompasses deploying APs for 20 hospitals. As of May 2012, more than 500 HotPoint 5100 APs have been successfully installed.

“Firetide’s access point technology clearly outperformed the competition and offered the high-bandwidth and reliability needed to support this large network of hospitals, said Mr.  Lee, LG Uplus Team Manager. “The final decision to move forward with Firetide was easy. Compared to competing offerings, Firetide APs experience 50 percent less interference-related data loss. This level of reliability combined with the product’s cost benefits; easily enable us to meet our ROI target.”

In order to remotely manage and control over 4,000 wireless APs across all 180 hospitals from a centralized location, LG Uplus is installing Firetide’s HotView Pro network management software. HotView Pro is a sophisticated, yet simple-to-use platform for configuring, monitoring, and managing Firetide HotPoint 5100 APs.

Firetide WLANs deliver a complete access solution for large scale, indoor and outdoor wireless networks. Modular design enables full network and software integration of the access points while at the same time permitting independent physical placement of the hardware to provide optimal accessibility for Wi-Fi clients.

“Firetide has a proven track record of providing reliable wireless networks in a variety of complex, high-interference networking environments,” said Bo Larsson, CEO of Firetide. “Providing LG Uplus with our industry leading APs and network management software will enable them to reliably and cost-effectively deliver Internet access and video-on-demand services to patients in order to enhance their experience and make their hospital stay more pleasant.”
