ASIS Invites Law Enforcement, Military to Free Day of Expo, Sessions

A day after ASIS Professional Certification Board President Rick Lisko, CPP, led assembled members and ASIS 2012 attendees in a moment of silence in honor of the anniversary of 9/11, the society as a whole is further paying tribute to men and women in uniform by inviting all active law enforcement and military professionals to participate in all seminar and expo activities scheduled for Sept. 12 at no charge.

Along with the invitation and the regular lineup of educational programs covering all facets of the security industry, the society is offering sessions in a Government/Military track designed to drill down and more deeply examine some of the unique challenges and opportunities such professionals face. For example, from 11 a.m. to noon the session "Trends in Partnership" (#4105) will explore how, in light of strained municipal budgets, public law enforcement will need to become even more creative in its crime prevention partnerships with private security, and "Successful Transitions" (#4118) will discuss useful steps and strategies for individuals who are leaving military or law enforcement assignments, which can be an exciting but also intimidating time. From 1:45 p.m. to 3 p.m., "Middle East Hackers" (session #4215) will examine how threats from Iran have moved into the cyber realm, creating cyber militias and proxies that support that country 's causes. From 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., separate sessions dealing with both "Convention Security" (session #4306) and "Aviation Security" (session #4315) will take place, to name but a few.

The day's keynote speaker is Robert Gates, former U.S. Secretary of Defense (2006-2011).

ASIS officials say that actively serving government and military personnel need merely to present a government or military ID at the registration desk to obtain today's complimentary registration.
