AS&E Awarded Order for Sentry Portal Cargo Inspection System

American Science and Engineering, Inc. has received an order from a government agency in Asia to scan air cargo using their Sentry Portal Cargo Inspection System.

American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E) announced the receipt of an order for one Sentry Portal cargo screening system from a government agency to protect an airport in Asia. Aviation security officials will use AS&E’s Sentry Portal cargo inspection solution to inspect air cargo pallets and containers before the cargo is loaded onto the aircraft.

“The Sentry Portal’s high-throughput, high penetration capability enables aviation security officials to inspect very dense and complex cargo while providing a rapid cycle-time for inspection,” said Anthony R. Fabiano, AS&E’s president and CEO. “The Sentry Portal system will provide a reliable means of detecting threatening materials and contraband hidden in air cargo containers without impeding the flow of commerce in the high traffic airport environment.”

Using a high-energy transmission X-ray source, the Sentry Portal provides high-penetration into inspected objects — up to 300 mm (12 inches) of steel — with a throughput of up to 150 trucks per hour. Employing this technology to avoid scanning the cab of the truck, a robust container locating sub-system ensures safe drive-through operation, ensures that the driver is never exposed to high-energy X-rays.
