Wrapping up Day 1 At ISC West

Today at 8am, I got on an airplane and flew from Dallas to Las Vegas, prepared to be amazed at everything ISC West has to offer, and I must admit, I was not disappointed! With rows and rows of solution providers and integrators available to discuss their latest and greatest, I was in security paradise. From cameras to DVRs to locks to whatever your heart desires from the security industry, it is all found here.

A unique product that caught my eye, because believe me, there were many, was the Proximity Activated Switches by Dortronics Systems, Inc. Known as their 5278 series Touchless Switches, this economical solution utilizes optic infrared technology, coupled with an imbedded sensor that detects motion within a range of 4 inches from the face plate. With a simple wave of the hand, the switch is activated; no need to actually touch the switch. However, if accidentally touched, the imbedded sensor will detect the motion before contact is made so that it operates normally.

This solution helps to decrease the spread of germs and diseases due to the fact that no hand contact is made with the switch when used with electronic locks and automatic door operators, making this an optimum solution for bathrooms, laboratories or hospitals. An illuminated LED ring is featured, making it easy to use in low lit areas. When the switch glows red, it is in normal standby mode, and when the switch glows green, it is activated in trigger mode. These switches come standard with a 6" lead ensuring ease-of-installation, and they work with card access systems and automatic door openers.

I was impressed with these switches because they are touchless, access control compatible, providing a safe, germ-free way to open doors. Plus, Dortronics takes pride in providing custom solutions, so each switch is customizable, meaning that any words in any font can be added to the switches to make it aesthetically pleasing.

After walking the showroom floor, meeting with a variety of solutions providers and integrators and concluding my evening by enjoying a wonderful steak dinner, needless to say, I am worn out, but I am looking forward to tomorrow's journey through ISC West 2013.
