Datawatch Systems Hires Director of Technology Services

Datawatch Systems today announced the appointment of a new Director of Technology Services who will work closely with the firm’s business development team to strengthen marketing initiatives.

Datawatch Systems Hires Director of Technology ServicesPara Weerasuriya, a veteran systems engineer with more than 20 years of experience, will oversee Datawatch’s digital marketing activities. He most recently served as president and chief technology officer for Maryland-based Systems Engineering & Business Management.

“We are extremely pleased that such a highly-motivated, creative digital strategist as Para is spearheading our digital business development outreach,” said William Peel, CEO of Datawatch Systems. 

Prior to joining Systems Engineering & Business Management, Weerasuriya served as vice president of new product development and revenue management for Maryland-based Presidio Corporation, a company that provides services for the implementation and management of advanced enterprise-class information systems.

From 1986 until 2009, Weerasuriya worked for Washington, D.C.-based Intelsat Corporation, a provider of telecommunication and video satellite services worldwide with annual revenues in excess of $2.5 billion. Weerasuriya held senior positions such as Department Manager of Satellite Operations System Engineering and Senior Manager of Business Operations. During his career he led a key initiative to consolidate satellites in space and redeployed them in high revenue generating orbital locations. This was the first-ever successful satellite consolidation initiative in the industry of this magnitude, and he was responsible for generating an additional $75 million in new revenue annually.

Weerasuriya earned a M.S. degree in computer science from American University; a M.S. in business administration from Strayer University; a B.S. degree in physics, mathematics and computer science from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka; and is professionally certified by the Information Technology Infrastructure Library.
