Securitech Employee Proud to See LEXI Control Trim Securing High School Alma Mater

Schools all over the country are making their facilities safer, and Securitech has taken a major role in this transition. Grant Heppes has worked in marketing for Securitech for the past two years and was happy to see products he helped bring to market installed at his high school alma mater near Washington, DC. Securitech understands the importance of making sure our children our safe when attending school.

Schools have been using basic access control technology on their perimeter doors as part of a fortress approach to securing the individual buildings. Entrance and exit doors to schools should be now secured 24/7. A staff member mans the door or doors as they are held open during high traffic hours.

No longer can visitors enter unimpeded and walk to an office on their own – a single entry door is generally used for access, with an intercom communication system. Many schools are creating secured vestibules so physical entry is not possible until the visitor’s credentials have been checked. Though this generally requires construction, it is the first step in creating an entry gauntlet and restricting unauthorized access.

Securitech Employee Proud to See LEXI Control Trim Securing High School Alma MaterSecuritech’s LEXITM retrofit control trim is our answer to securing school entrances and giving our schools better access control. LEXITM was designed by Securitech to be used a universal access control solution for electrifying existing exit doors, even if a school system has exit devices from different manufacturers across their buildings.

Retrofitting LEXITM Control Trim to various exit devices is made possible by Securitech’s Mounting Plates & Operators (MP&O). Each MP&O is created specifically with a certain exit device in mind. The MP&O is mounted to the back of the LEXITM Control Trim. This is thrubolted to the exit device or door, allowing the trim and device to work simultaneously.

Security professionals are developing a variety of locking solutions to meet school entrance security needs. Determining which solution meets the requirements for your individual school requires all stakeholders to review the various options, determine which best suits their needs and evaluate them while recognizing the new security paradigm for students and teachers. However, securing the perimeter is universally accepted as the first step in any school security, and LEXITM has proven itself as the cost-effective, retrofit product for schools across the nation.

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
