Thieves Dig 50 Foot Tunnel to Steal ATM

Thieves Dig 50 Foot Tunnel to Steal ATM

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths thieves will go to just to steal money! How about tunneling underground like a mole?!

Thieves Dig 50 Foot Tunnel to Steal ATMAccording to the Greater Manchester police, a group of UK thieves dug a 50-foot, underground tunnel at an abandoned lot nearby a Tesco grocery store to steal money from an ATM. These rather sophisticated thieves used the tunnel to access the store as well as escape. In order to pull this off, it is probable that the perps took months to plan and execute, spending long periods of time surveying the area, because they actually escaped with a “substantial sum of money.”

Mark Toker, a detective with the Greater Manchester police said, “You may have seen people acting suspiciously on Friday night, possibly covered in soil.”

Toker is asking anyone with any information to call the police as soon as possible.

Ironically, this isn’t the first tunnel thievery in Manchester. In 2012, the “mole gang” dug a 100-foot tunnel to steal approximately $9,915 from an ATM by cutting their way through 15 inches of concrete. However, it’s unknown if these are the same thieves who were involved in the 50-foot tunnel heist.

And, so, I ask you, security professionals, what security solutions do you suggest to prevent tunnel thievery?
