To make sure you get the most out of your vest, Chris Taylor, communications director, Safe Guard Armor gives the following the tips:
- Clean with care. When cleaning your protective vest, never immerse it fully in water, as this can damage the fibers and negate its protective capabilities. Instead, just use a sponge with warm, soapy water, and clean the vest carefully.
- Avoid damaged vests. When taking a vest from a stock of several, never wear one showing signs of damage. Holes and cuts can leave you unprotected. Always choose one without wear and tear.
- No substitutes. Never use one vest instead of another if expecting a particular level of risk – a bulletproof vest will not stop blades, nor will a stab vest stop bullets.
- Be prepared. Never enter a potentially dangerous situation without adequate body armor. In order to protect people to the best of your abilities, you need to stay safe yourself.
