Securitron EcoPower Power Supply Achieves Energy Savings

Securitron, an ASSA ABLOY Group brand, has received third-party certification for the energy savings attributed to EcoPower, a new highly efficient power supply. The power supply, designed and tested with EcoFlex electrified mortise locks from ASSA ABLOY Group brands Corbin Russwin and SARGENT, is GreenCircle certified for up to a remarkable 99% energy savings versus traditional power supplies. GreenCircle Certified, LLC (GreenCircle) is a provider of third-party certification of environmental claims.

A unique access control power supply, EcoPower can reduce standby power consumption in certain configurations to only 8.5mW (0.0085W), a 99% decrease compared to current linear and switching power supplies.

When used with Corbin Russwin and SARGENT EcoFlex electrified mortise locks, power consumption of the door opening can be reduced from 12W or more to a phenomenal 0.3W. The low power consumption also means that the included battery provides 24 or more hours of backup power. EcoFlex mortise locks also received GreenCircle certification earlier this year, validating that they reduce energy usage up to 96 percent compared to standard electrified mortise locks.

Four EcoPower configurations that GreenCircle certified achieve 99% energy savings. These high-performing configurations include:

  • EcoPower power supply compared to a traditional linear power supply at steady state;
  • EcoPower power supply compared to a traditional switching power supply at steady state;
  • EcoPower paired with a Corbin Russwin or SARGENT EcoFlex electrified mortise lock compared to a traditional switching power supply and a solenoid based electrified mortise lock in Fail Secure configuration; and
  • EcoPower paired with a Corbin Russwin or SARGENT EcoFlex electrified mortise lock compared to a traditional linear power supply and a solenoid based electrified mortise lock in Fail Secure configuration.

“GreenCircle certification adds value to our products and reinforces ASSA ABLOY’s position as a market leader by validating our sustainability claims,” said Aaron Smith, director of sustainable building solutions, ASSA ABLOY. “The verification of the energy savings that Securitron EcoPower offers demonstrates our commitment to leading the sustainability movement forward in the market.”

    As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

    Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
