HID Global's NFC Tag Technology Reduces Fraud in Home Healthcare Market

HID Global announced the results of its HID Trusted Tag Services pilot that successfully demonstrate its ability to provide “proof of presence” and an auditable Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) record of caregivers in patients’ homes. Partnering in the pilot program wereDial-N-Document, which provides visit verification and documentation software to document employee activities, and Integrity Home Care, which offers a full range of home-based care services.

The pilot program is designed to test HID Trusted Tag Services’ ability to provide real-time authentication of caregiver visits using smartphones.Integrity Home Care case managers installed HID’s tamper-proof tags, which feature unique security and privacy attributes, to a light switch inside the patients’ homes. Upon arrival, caregivers tap the tag with their Near Field Communication (NFC) smartphone to create a secure connection to the Dial-N-Document system for authentication. This integrates seamlessly with the full encounter documentation captured by Dial-N-Document and is transmitted directly to Integrity’s billing payroll and scheduling software.

In addition to a 100% authentication accuracy rate, preliminary results of the pilot program demonstrate that use of HID Trusted Tag Services increased caregiver productivity by eliminating up to 30 seconds from each check-in.

When integrated with a comprehensive documentation platform like Dial-N-Document, HID Trusted Tag Services complies with the EVV requirements for home health agencies enacted by several states as a condition of Medicaid participation in response to rampant billing fraud. In addition to providing an indisputable and auditable EVV record for agencies to use for billing and reimbursement, HID Trusted Tag Services integrates seamlessly into most clinical and administrative management software systems for real-time data transmissions that enable faster and more accurate claims processing and advanced analytics.
