Wired Lists the Windows 10 Security Settings worth Knowing

Wired has taken the time to comb through the Microsoft Windows 10 privacy statement, highlighting the most importance settings that exist in the new update. According to the report, Microsoft has three different ways in which it uses personal date: to operate the business and provide services, to send communications, and to display advertising.

Using these three tenants, there are ways to prevent Windows 10 from taking your secure information unknowingly.

First, Wired recommends you turn off tracking by heading to the Privacy settings. This will stop Microsoft from gathering random information.

Next, you’ll want to protect your browsing history by going to advanced settings and turning off the “Have Cortana Assist Me in Microsoft Edge” setting.

You’ll also want to avoid creating a Microsoft Account, which will stop Microsoft from linking all metadata to your identity.

Finally, Cortana is one of the biggest additions to Windows 10, but it is also one of the most invasive. You can clear the “interests” data so that the OS won’t try and learn too much about you, thus keeping the computer at bay.
