Russian Ambassador to Turkey Shot at Art Gallery
Russia's ambassador to Turkey was attacked by a gunman at an art gallery in Ankara on Monday, December 19.
A Russian foreign ministry spokesperson said that the ambassador, Andreu Karlov, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound.
According to an AP photographer, who was present during the attack, Karlov was several minutes into a speech when a man wearing a suit and tie shouted, "Allahu Akbar" and began to fire a gun. It is reported that he fired at least eight shots.
The suited man said some words in Russian and smashed several photos that hung in the gallery.
Allegedly, the whole incident lasted about 25 minutes and several graphic photos from the scene have been posted on social media sites like Twitter.
Maria Zakharova, a Russian Foreign Spokesperson said that the ministry would soon comment on "the attack on the Russian ambassador in Turkey."
