Cybersecurity Tops List of Technologies Employed by Healthcare Facilities

Cybersecurity was found to be the top technology used by healthcare facilities.

Cybersecurity is among the top technologies employed by healthcare and life sciences firms across the world, according to a survey by global software major Infosys.

"Cybersecurity (77 percent), Big Data analytics (72 percent) and AI (59 percent) are the three digital technologies most utilized by healthcare firms currently," Infosys said in its report titled "Digital Outlook for Healthcare and Life Sciences Industry."

The motive of the survey was not just to identify the technology trends in healthcare and life sciences, but also to understand how those technologies improved their operations.

According to the survey, nearly 76 percent of the life sciences firms that were surveyed considered investing in cybersecurity over the next three years for protecting patient data.

The survey's results come just months after cybersecurity attacks across the world took patient data and hospital computers for ransom. Large scale DDoS attacks like WannaCry and NotPetya held data hostage while asking the computer user for a ransom before the data was permanently deleted.

The healthcare industry was struck particularly hard due to the increasing vulnerabilities in software that isn't regularly updated.
