French Christmas Market Targeted in Shooting, Terror Level Raised

A Christmas Market in France was the scene of a shooting that left five dead and 10 injured last week.

The suspect in the Strasbourg shooting that left five dead and 10 more injured at a French Christmas Market was killed by police on Dec. 13, French authorities said last week.

The announcement comes after an intense manhunt involving hundreds of offices since the shooting that took place at a Christmas market on Tuesday, December 11. That night, a man open fire close to the famed Christmas market, witnesses say he shouted, "Allahu Akbar" as he open fired. The suspect was said to be armed with a gun and a knife and escaped the area after jumping into a taxi.

The suspect had been on the run since the attack near the popular tourist attraction.

After the shooting, the government raised the terror alert level nationwide and deployed an additional 1,800 soldiers across France to help patrol streets and secure crowded events.

The Christmas Market was reopened last Friday under heavy security, Reuters reported.
