What's New, What's Exciting

The fun has begun and what a first day of ISC West has been. It appears to me that attendees are at an all-time high this year. It's good to see a packed show floor, and exhibitors seem to be very pleased with the traffic.

As expected, Axis Communications brings something new to the show. The new version of ARTPEC 7 will bring an array of new capabilities and features to Axis network cameras, namely even better imaging, enhanced security features, powerful compression and ability to run analytics on the edge. Moreover, since the chip is fully developed by Axis, it provides a layer of control that is crucial for effective cybersecurity.

"We're one of only a few manufacturers that develops our own chipset, therefore the creation of ARTPEC 7 is a key differentiator for us and a significant benefit to our customers," said Fredrik Nilsson, vice president of the Americas, Axis Communications.

I think this is something that you'll want to investigate as you search for camera technology. As for new cameras, yes, of course there are new offerings. The P1375 and P5655-E PTZ are new network cameras, which offer better compression factors and use the new ARTPEC 7 chipset.

Joining the wave of gunshot detection, Shot Tracer is displaying its innovative portfolio of gunshot detection solutions. New product introductions on display include the Shot Tracer Eagle Eyes Integrated Gunshot Sensor and Camera System that integrates the company's patented gunshot sensor technology with wide area video capabilities and auto-push IP notifications, and the Shot Tracer Hawk Outdoor Gunshot Detection Sensor which extends the unparalleled accuracy of the company's highly accurate gunshot detection technology to exterior locations.

"No one wants to think that their facility, office or school needs to think about an active shooter incident, but the reality is that virtually all entertainment, workplace and school venues are threatened by this epidemic," said Allan Overcast, CEO and president of Shot Tracer Technologies.

Western Digital is launching their WD Purple SC QD312 Extreme Endurance microSD card. The card is aimed at designers and manufacturers of AI-enabled security cameras, smart video surveillance and advanced edge devices, intended to capture and store video at higher bit rates than mainstream cameras.

So, it's on to a second day of exploring and technology innovation. I hope the show is going well for everyone. I've talked to a lot of people who are willing to share stories in future issues of Security Today, so look forward to that.
