Access Control Data Shows Steady Occupancy Growth Across the Nation

Americans have been living through a period of intense uncertainty since March — struggling with an unprecedented pandemic and the economic distress it has caused.

To provide some clarity on the issues facing American businesses, Kastle Systems has been studying keycard, fob and KastlePresence app access data from the 3,600 buildings and 41,000 businesses we secure across 47 states. We’re analyzing the anonymized data to identify trends in how Americans are returning to the office.

Building occupancy rates were on the rise across the nation last week, bringing the 10-city national average up to 24.7%, a 0.8% increase from the week before. Philadelphia experienced the most growth, with its occupancy rate going up 3.1% to 26.7%.

Dallas was the only city measured on the Barometer to experience a drop in occupancy, coming down 1.1% to 35.7%. In fact, this marks the first time in months that Dallas is not the most open city on the Barometer. Houston and Austin have moved ahead, with occupancy rates of 35.8% and 35.7%, respectively.
