Next week is the ISC West
Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. And if you’re attending, you’re probably in the
process of crafting your daily itineraries and finalizing your schedule. With
so many available exhibitors, sessions, speakers and educational
opportunities—not to mention happy hours, dinners and afterparties—it’s easy to
feel like you might be missing out on something. Here’s an overview of some
staples to fit in, as well as a few recommendations if you happen to have the
time!
Keynotes
The Day
1 Keynote Session, “The Continuing Evolution of Las Vegas: How Aviation
Security Technology Advancements are Taking LAS to the Next Level,” is
scheduled from 8:45–9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, in Venetian Ballroom F.
The speaker is Rosemary Vassiliadis, Director of Aviation for the Clark County
Department of Aviation. She’ll talk about how the renewed bustle of travelers
through Harry Reid International Airport is pushing officials to evolve
security measures and keep people moving. She’ll also talk about the airport’s
Innovation Checkpoint, a TSA initiative designed to test new security
technologies and processes.
The Day
2 Keynote Session is called “Lessons in Public Safety Response, Crisis
Management and Community Resiliency in the Age of Mass Shooting.” It’s
scheduled from 8:45–9:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, also in Venetian Ballroom
F. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard will discuss the mass shooting
response and recovery efforts following the active shooter incident at Oxford
High School in Nov. 2021. He’ll cover topics like emergency preparedness;
crisis management; and security technologies intended to detect, deter, prevent
and respond to mass shooting events.
Day 3 brings the SIA
Women in Security Forum Keynote, “People Hacking: The Human Element of
Security,” scheduled from 10–11 a.m. on Friday, March 25, at the Bridge Stage
at Booth 20073. Speaker Jenny Radcliffe is a social engineer and “people
hacker” who’s talked her way past security into places like high-security banks
and even the Tower of London. She’ll explain how you can read people and social
cues better, use subtle persuasion tactics, reopen avenues of conversation and
understand their own social vulnerabilities. She’ll also discuss how the
weakest link in organizational security is often the human wearing the security
uniform.
"From protecting major airports to preventing and
responding to mass shootings to the behavioral science aspect of security, this
powerful series of keynotes at ISC West will deliver insights that truly matter
to our industry, and these keynotes pair well with the full SIA Education@ISC
conference program, where leading experts will share their knowhow on topics of
security technology, business management and career improvement,” said
SIA CEO Don Erickson in a press release. “With a variety of other special
SIA training offerings, including our OSDP Boot Camp, SIA’s Security Project
Management training course, an information session on the Security Industry
Cybersecurity Certification, a drones and robotics business forum and the
kickoff to the new Women in Security Forum Leadership Series, this year’s ISC
West offers more expertise than ever before.”
