SIA Is Committed To Continue Developing Its Industry Standards In Accordance With ANSI Requirements And Invites Members To Get Involved

The Security Industry Association (SIA) has successfully completed the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) reaccreditation process for its standards development program. ANSI – the nonprofit standards body accreditation organization that oversees development of voluntary consensus standards for products, processes, systems and personnel in the United States – requires all ANSI-accredited standards developers to complete a full audit of all documentation and procedures to ensure compliance with its own set of procedures in addition to ANSI’s essential requirements every five years.

“SIA is pleased to announce the ANSI reaccreditation of our robust industry standards program,” said Don Erickson, SIA CEO. “This milestone highlights SIA’s long-term commitment to being ANSI accredited across the standards we develop, promote and advocate, which foster interoperability and information sharing in the security industry. With the credibility earned though this reaccreditation, and due to the volunteer leadership of Standards Committee Chair Peter Boriskin and standards committee members and the dedication of our professional standards team, there is renewed commitment and enthusiasm for SIA to deliver additional standards program value to our members and the industry.”

“SIA is proud to produce high-quality standards and technical programs that continually evolve to meet the needs of our members and the industry. Maintaining ANSI accreditation builds confidence and trust and helps us deliver immense value through SIA’s standards programs,” said Boriskin, chair of the SIA Standards Committee and chief technology officer at ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions. “Efforts like these would not be possible without the support and active participation of our member volunteers. We encourage interested SIA members to contribute their passion and expertise by getting involved in our standards committees, groups and activities.”

The following SIA standards have been ANSI approved:

  • ANSI SIA/IAPSC AG-01, the Architectural Graphics for Security Standard, is a collection of architectural graphics for security intended for use by architects, building contractors, system integrators, electrical contractors and security managers who use CAD to produce construction drawings, shop drawings and installation/as-built drawings and physical security system layouts.
  • ANSI/SIA CP-01 is a standard developed by SIA that uses technology, industry experience and common knowledge approaches to pinpoint the causes of and decrease the frequency of false alarm dispatches.

Additionally, SIA’s digital communication standard DC-09, which details the protocol and related details to report events from premises equipment to a central station using internet protocol to carry event content, is going through the process of review by the Security Industry Standards Council.

Version 2.2.1 of the SIA Open Supervised Device Protocol – an access control communications standard developed by SIA to improve interoperability across access control and security products – will also go through the process once approved by the SIA Standard Committee.

SIA is committed to continue developing our industry standards in accordance with ANSI’s requirements for openness, balance, consensus and due process. Members who would like to get involved in SIA’s standards programs and activities are encouraged to contact Edison Shen, director of standards and technology at SIA, at [email protected].
