K2 Names Thunell as Cybersecurity Executive Vice President

Chris Thunell joins K2 to lead enterprise IT strategy and federal compliance initiatives across the defense and security sectors.

K2 has appointed Chris Thunell as executive vice president of cybersecurity and information technology. In this role, Thunell will oversee enterprise IT strategy, cloud architecture and managed services, specifically focusing on the intersection of secure technology and federal operational performance.

Thunell’s primary mandate includes the integration of critical regulatory frameworks into K2’s federal strategy. This involves aligning the firm with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, which are essential for contractors operating within the Department of Defense (DoD) supply chain.

With more than 30 years of experience in information technology and executive management, Thunell most recently served as president of 3C Solutions Inc. His career has focused on infrastructure modernization and digital transformation across diverse industries, with an emphasis on navigating complex enterprise technology environments.

At K2, Thunell will also lead the company’s efforts to achieve certification as a Registered Provider Organization (RPO) through The Cyber AB. As an RPO, K2 will be authorized to provide specialized advice and assistance to other organizations seeking to meet the stringent security requirements necessary to maintain eligibility for federal contracts. This move is intended to strengthen the security posture and compliance readiness of K2’s clients within the defense industrial base.
